On February 17, 2022, commemorative events dedicated to the 117th anniversary of the tragic death of the first Chairman of the
Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society (IOPS), Grand Duke Sergius Alexandrovich, were held at the Novospassky Stauropegial Monastery in Moscow. The first vicar of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, the abbot of the Novospassky Stauropegial Monastery, Metropolitan Dionysius of Voskresensky performed a memorial service at the grave of Grand Duke Sergius Alexandrovich.
Grand Duke Sergiy Alexandrovich was buried in a special crypt in the Miracle Monastery, in the Kremlin. In the early 30s, with the destruction of the monastery, the tomb above the crypt was also destroyed. In the 90s, during repair work, a crypt was discovered in which the murdered Grand Duke Sergius Alexandrovich was buried. The acquisition and solemn transfer to the Moscow Novospassky Stauropegial Monastery of the honest remains of Grand Duke Sergius Alexandrovich took place on September 17, 1995.
