The graves of the Cossacks were found in Dubovka, Volgograd, on August 3, 1918, a tragedy: 156 Cossacks of the village of Pichuzhinskaya, not far from Cheremukhovaya, were shot by Communists in the steppe. For a long time the place of burial of the Cossacks remained unknown. On May 10, a group consisting of the Dubovsk and Pichuzhny Cossacks went in search of him. Nikolay Stepanov, the ataman of the Dubrovka Cossack society, told how it was done:
“There are legends in the Cossack circle, allegedly men were shot, and women and children were taken to the barge and flooded, wanting to erase the memory of what happened from the Dubovskaya land,” says the ataman. - These burials are still of interest, both among Cossacks and black diggers and treasure hunters, who think that the shot were buried along with the jewels. As is known, the victims of the genocide were stripped naked: they either shot them or chopped them up. Recently, there have been many attempts to find this place, in fact, as well as disputes about how and where the Cossacks were buried.
Before May 9, a member of the initiative group of the Dubovsky Cossack Society, Andrei Tararin, met with the first ataman, who stood at the origins of the revival of the Dubovsky Cossacks, Anatoly Polyakov. The chieftain said that when he was young, his father showed the burial place of the Cossacks. After a long survey of the territory, near the Cherry-tree beam, they managed to find an abandoned cemetery. It was a platform littered with hillocks, marked with stones and hidden steppe feather grass. It was immediately decided to refine one of the graves. ”
The plans of the initiative group to put in order an untidy cemetery and erect a cross, indicating the burial place and honoring the memory of the dead Cossacks
